After having a few experiences I feel it is important to address a few things.
#1 This website is operated, owned, and maintained by Patrick Asay. He accepts full responsibility for its content.
#2 We have noticed that there have been many martial art "purists" out there who believe that their style (or method) is better than anyone else's. Understand that we, at Applied Martial Arts, DO NOT CONSIDER ANY MARTIAL ART TO BE SUPERIOR THAN ANOTHER. There is a time and a place for many styles. I am proud to say that I have been a student in Taekwondo, Krav Maga, Karate, and Wing Chun. I am honored to say that I am currently training under Sensei Eckman in Japanese Jujitsu and Brian Brock in ground fighting and Brazilian JiuJitsu. I am humbled and privileged to now announce that I am a student of Grand Master Anthony Southard, founder of the Southard Combat System. I will never say that one style is better than another. I may say something is more practical than something else and I may state that a certain situation may call for a special technique from a specific style and may be more appropriate, but the important thing to understand is NOTHING IS BETTER. Just different. Something that works on one person may not work on another, that's why you have to, as Sensei Eckman says, "adapt." If something doesn't work, try something else. If you lost, it's because you didn't try anything else.
#3 There is a HUGE ego problem in the world of martial arts. It is unavoidable. However, it can be minimized when the martial artist cares more about lifting up and building up others rather than him/herself. It's really difficult to do because everyone (except true martial artists IMO) wants to compare martial penis size. If your intent is to find out how tough your are, you are on the wrong website. I will not accept any challenges offered by MMA fighters, Traditional Martial Artists, or any whacko who wants to fight me. Your eagerness to fight me and prove how manly you are only pitifully shows how insecure you are about yourself. APPLIED MARTIAL ARTS IS ANTI-VIOLENCE. If you want to make sure I am competent in my skills, that's a very different thing, and all you have to do is come and join in on one of our classes.
#4 I tell it like it is. If you don't like it, you don't have to waste your time here. I come from a violent background, I have studied (and am STILL studying) martial arts, and I have developed an effective reality-based curriculum that many have found useful. I am a young martial artist, however, and don't consider myself the best there is. However, I am currently training through, and certifying under, the best there is. The road I'm on is one you'll want to follow if you want to learn the most effective ways of combat. Even though I'm a work still in progress, I am far enough along that my proficiency speaks for itself in the realm I claim. I DO NOT claim to be anything more than what I have stated. I have mastered many techniques, but I have not mastered all of them. I have faith that there will come a day that I will master all of them. That is what I seek. If you seek the same thing, you have found the right place.
#5 We write weekly articles about various topics and send them out in a mailing list. If you are on the mailing list and find something interesting about one of the articles, feel free to voice your opinion by replying to the email. If there was something you didn't like, we'd also like to hear about that as well.
