"Learning martial arts with Patrick Asay was an outstanding experience! As a woman I was a bit nervous to learn martial arts from a perfect stranger! Even though I had some experience with TaeKwonDo in the past I had never pursued a one-on-one learning arrangement. Patrick understood my reservations and was very patient. He took the time to explain his credentials, assess my abilities, explain what he was going to do before he did it, and, mostly importantly, to establish a teacher-student relationship based on trust. From the very beginning he taught me useful exercises with practical applications! He automatically broke down complicated moves into small, simpler steps and devoted the time to make sure I mastered them. Many times in TaeKwonDo we did the "same old thing" over and over. Not Patrick! He varied our lessons so I was never bored! I learned very quickly from him and cannot say enough about this great learning experience! I felt challenged to learn new material, but not overwhelmed. Patrick Asay is an intense, devoted martial arts teacher and I would highly recommend taking lessons with him if you ever have the chance. I found it to be an amazing experience and I'm sure you will too!"

"Mr. Asay's Reality-Based Self Defense program has given me something much more valuable than mere physical attributes. It has provided me with a profound psychological edge that got me through dangerous situations. Because of the physical and psychological training I earned from Applied Martial Arts, I have survived three street attacks by desperate criminals and have prevented even many more potentially violent attacks. Some have the luxury of living in a place where violence is not prevalent. Some don't. He teaches that violence can happen anywhere anytime and that it's unpredictable. I highly recommend his course for anyone wanting to live a safer life."

"Applied Martial Arts creates a perfect balance between combat techniques, philosophy, psychological training, and the application of self-awareness. Patrick Asay has a gift to communicate and instruct. He doesn't teach to learn, he teaches to empower."

"I’m the last person I thought would utilize a personal trainer. I mean, they’re someone who tells you to do all the things you know you should be doing anyway, right?
"However, when I decided that I wanted to start running, I was hesitant. My knees aren’t the best and I’m overweight. Not the best combination for running, so when Patrick told me he could help me get the best out of my experience, I decided to give it a try.
From the very first session, Patrick has been helpful, professional and an instrumental force in the extent of my progress. He established what my fitness levels were and has held out challenging, yet attainable goals. During our workouts, he pays careful attention to my breathing and heart rate to avoid over-exertion. He has taught me how to control my breathing and pace to extend my reserves to complete whatever course I’m on. It’s important to know what you need to work on, but it’s equally important to know what you’re doing right and he has made it a point to recognize my good behaviors and techniques. Patrick has thoroughly answered any questions I’ve brought up and is a well-spring of encouragement.
"I can honestly say that without Patrick’s coaching and assistance, I wouldn’t be near as far as I am now. From a single lap around the park, to a mile run, to hill sprints, to a 3.5 mile trek, I have trusted his judgment of my abilities and have far surpassed my own expectations. And when he tells me there’s another goal within my reach, I know he’s right and that he’ll help me realize my potential. And in the end, isn’t that what it’s really about?"
